Welcome to our web site which is designed to serve several purposes.

The primary purpose is to help folks get started doing genealogy research at no cost from home in a clear manner without noise from banner ads and with transparency. There are no hidden re-directions to pay-for-service sites.  We will, however, suggest several pay-for-service websites to aid in your search but we will clearly note when that occurs.  Examples are provided for ObituaryCensus, Death, and Immigration records as well as links to State level resources.

The second purpose is to provide visual access to information not otherwise available in such an easy-to-access format.  We stand alone as the only site offering a Google map interface to mapped historical books from the Library of Congress, digital historic newspapers, libraries, and Genealogy & Historical societies.

The third purpose is to share the challenges we have faced and offer suggestions, lessons learned and techniques we have used to overcome hurdles.  We will talk about challenges such as multiple name changes, missing information, inconsistent information and the ways we addressed these issues.

Our Site Index has a full listing of every category and allows you to jump directly to any portion on the website.

Temporarily the visual access to digital historic books is limited to 25 states including Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina and Ohio during our website development. Other states will be added shortly.

Our site has visual access to links for Genealogy Societies, Historical Societies, Libraries and City / County Offices covering all 50 states.

For an interesting diversion from genealogy research you may enjoy seeing some old cook books which also give you a glimpse into what daily life was like.  With the current news focused on the presidential election thought it would be interesting to explore the political conventions of our past.  We also have a page with several books covering the 1913 floods which affected several states including Ohio.

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, we want to make this experience interactive and would like to hear from you and hope you can share how you have overcome the inevitable hurdles. We can all benefit from sharing information.  Be sure to check out our Facebook page!  www.facebook.com/ancestrypaths.
